TT3 - Embellishments

I want to share with you the Embellishments section of the Totally Techniques class.  The first is the Crimped Paper Flower Rosette.  Paper flowers are very popular right now and there are several types.  This one is done with a 12x1 piece of DSP that is run through the crimper 3x to break up the fibers.  Then just shape it onto some sticky-strip or mono will also hold this.

These summer sun buttons will retire with this ink so stock up now.

Treat cups are IN and they come in a circle and heart shape.  They can be filled with lots of things, here with a butterfly to look like a magnifying glass.  Fun, huh!

 

Did you notice the two colors on the flowers?  Just ink your solid stamp in the lighter color first and then sponge on a darker accent before stamping.

 

Last, we dyed the Pretties BIG flower using Classic Ink and a sponge dauber.  Sponge both sides and let dry a bit and then fold over for a fuller flower.

I love this look and how the pearl fits into the button.  The leaves were created by crimping your paper and punching with the small oval.  Aren't you glad Pink Pirouette and Riding Hood Red are coming back.

Totally Techniques classes

On Saturday, I ran my Totally Techniques class where all participants get to learch 12 techniques and take home the sample, instructions and a 6x6 linen album so they can refer to them for inspiration at home.  I want to thank everyone that attended and I am going to post the samples we did for reference.  The first set of three are 'Everyday' techniques...simple and fun.

Kissing is a simple technique and works really well with a solid/bold stamp like the butterfly from Flight of the Butterfly.  The backgrounds were created using the Al a Carte stamps in the back of the Occasions Mini:  Fine Flourish and Dot, Dot, Dot.

To create Poppin' Pastels, stamp your image (here I used the Medallion stamp) in VersaMark and then apply chalks over VM using a sponge dauber.  I find that pouncing the color works the best.  It is like magic when it appears!

Last is the Glitter Window technique created by applying packing tape to the back of your frame so the sticky side is up.  Apply Dazzling Diamond glitter directly to the sticky side and place an image behind it.  Love how easy this technique is and how big of a WOW it creates.

Spring Basket

Last weekend at my workshop, this is one of the projects that the girls made.  I wanted to showcase the new 'Awash with Flowers' and make a 3-d project.  I thought this little basket made with the Basket & Blooms die was just the thing.

Just cut the front and back of the basket with the die.  I used Whisper White for the front and back and then cut a piece of Shades of Spring DSP in the Occasions Mini (ends April 30th).  I used Tombow Multi-Purpose adhesive to glue the DSP and White cardstock together.  I think the DSP is too thin on its own.  The front is stamped with the 2-step stamping set 'Awash with Flowers' that you can earn for free this month or purchase if you like.  After April, it will not be available again until July in the new catalog.

The inside is Certainly Celery cut to make a box.   This template is from Gretchen Barron.  She cut the stock at 6x7 and then scored 2 inches all the way around.  I followed her tutorial except I put the sticky strip on the box. 

Fill with candy or other goodies and this makes a nice little gift.  Hope you like it.

Peacock RAK

I am so lucky to get this beautiful card from Kelly.  She said that she owes it to me but I sure don't remember that.  Look at the great colors.  The DSP is Kaleidoscope.  This is one of the papers I do not own and now I think I may just have to buy it before it retires in July.  Love the Tempting Turq and Pixie Pink together.

Dinosaurs

On Spring Break this year, we stayed close to home and decided to do a day trip to NYC.  We had not been to the museums in New York all together so we hopped in the car and drove in.  We chose the museum of Natural History figuring the boys we not want to look at paintings and artwork all day.

We got there right before they opened and bought tickets for the two IMAX movies and the other three special events.  One of my faves was the butterflies and I will share pictures of those in another post.  There was so much to see here and I did not take pictures of everything.  I wanted to get some pictures of the boys so I did take a few in the dinosaur wing.

About 3:00pm or so, everyone got tired of the museum and we walked across the street to Central Park.  It was a beautiful day.  Of course, the boys had to climb on the rocks...probably one of the highlights of the day for them.  It was a fun day!  I love New York City but can not get them as excited about it as I am.  Must be a girl thing...

Color Renovation

If you haven't heard by now, I want to give you the scoop on the color changes that will take place in the new catalog year 2010-11 in July.  In general, some of the current colors will be retiring, some of the past In Colors will be brought back and there will be some NEW COLORS!  I am very excited about this change because in my opinion the color families were getting a little stale and I am THRILLED about the new choices.

Check out the new color collection of 40 core colors.  They are organized into four color collections: Brights, Neutrals, Regals and Subtles. 

The following In Colors are now part of the core color collection:  Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry, Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, River Rock, Soft Suede, Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze, Wild Wasabi.

Suede flowers

There are many ways to create flowers with punches and I particularly like this one.  This little box is the Box #2 die wrapped in Whisper White dry embossed paper and a cute little embellishment added.  The flower feels like suede.  All you do is punch a flower out of cardstock using the Extra Large Fancy Flower punch (or other flower die-cut) and using your bone folder, curl all the petals.  Do this on both sides and many times until the paper starts to separate.  Then gently peel the layers apart.  The inside will feel and look like suede. 

Here I stacked several different sizes and added a brad to the center.  Not easy to see it but you will love the way it feels to the touch.

Crimped Flower

I am sure you have seen these all over the web lately...these crimped flowers are real easy to make and have a big impact as an embellishment.  Just cut a 12 x 1 piece of DSP and run it through your crimper three times to make it really ply-able.  Then punch out or cut a 1 3/4 circle of sticky cuts and remove the redline tape.  Starting at the outside edge, add your crimped paper around the edge, gathering a little as you go toward the center.  Add a brad or button to the center and you are done.
