Peek-a-Boo

Look at this little 3-d box we created as the make-n-take at a recent workshop.  It is called a Peek-a-Boo box.  They call it that because you open the lid and can peek at what is inside :)

Here are the instructions.  Start with a 9 1/2 x 4" piece of card stock, I used Rose Red.    Score it vertically at 1 and 3 ".  Then score horizontally at 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9".    You will need to cut away pieces that are not needed for the box.  Refer to this diagram for assistance.

Stamp the outside as desired.  I used the It's Beautiful wheel in Rose Red.   To create the top flower, I punched a Regal Rose scallop, a Rose Red Scallop, and punched a flower medallion out of the Bali Breeze DSP with the 1 3/8" circle punch.  Punch the Rose Red Scallop again using the scallop punch, but this time offset the scallop edge a bit to get the pointed edges.  See prior posts for more detailed instructions.  Assemble and I used a rhinestone brad to top it off.

Burnish your score marks and punch your peek-a-boo window.  See diagram again.  To make sure  it is centered, I used a punch circle as a template and punched over that one.  I placed a window sheet/transparency behind the peek-a-book circle to keep the goodies inside.  Tape your box together and tie a ribbon around it.  I used Pretty in Pink Tafetta.  I think it turned out cute!

Future NASCAR winner

This past weekend was the Pinewood Derby (our last year, thank goodness) for our cubscout Pack.  My Steven and Daniel got first and second place in their den AND Steven won first place among all 3 Packs in town.  I am thrilled for him.  He looks happy :)

Steven in the one on the left.  This is the first time I have seen him smile and show his braces.  He just got them a couple of weeks ago.

Bali Color

This bright and colorful card was another demo at a recent workshop.  It showcases the Bali Breeze paper.  Love it!  The colors that coordinate with this paper are Old Olive, Taken with Teal, Rose Red and Pumpkin Pie.  I would have not put these together on my own, but look how great they look.  They are happy colors ! 

This is a 5 1/4 square card with a little stamping from A Beautiful Thing.   The Taken With Teal base card is stamped with the circle swirly stamp, tone on tone (hard to see in the picture).  The center base is Whisper White (3 1/2 square).  Pick your favorite Bali Breeze paper and cut them 1 x 3 1/4 and layer them on.  I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set right on the DSP.  Add some 5/8" Olive ribbon and start to build your flower.

The focal point of this card is the fab flower.  It is several layers, I will start from the back and go forward.  Punch a Pumpkin Pie and Rose Red scallop using our punch.  I will come back to the Rose one.  Punch a 3/8 " cirle in teal.  Stamp flower shadow in Rose Red on Whisper White, stamp line art flower in black over the top.  Cut it out.  Layer one of the new felt flowers from Flower Fusion on top.  You get 130 individual felt flowers in this kit in pumpkin pie, rose red and old olive.  It is a MUST HAVE.  Add on a rhinestone brad, and viola - a cute fancy flower.  Add to your card with dimensionals.

Let's go back to the Rose Red scallop.  To get this design, insert your scallop back into your scallop punch and turn it slightly so that you are punching through the round scallop already there.  This gives you a pointed edge to the round scallop edges.  Cool, huh!  Try it. 

Hint:  I found that it was easier for me to line up the scallop paper in the punch if I add a glue dot to the center (after the punched scallop is inside the punch again) and move it around inside the punch with my scissor tip (or other item like a stylus) then line it up that way I want it. You can remove the glue dot when you are done.

Scallop Notes

Scallops are all the rage.  You can get them from your Scallop Punch, or make them using your corner rounder or slit punch.  OR...buy them already on your note cards.  SU has a new product in the big catty called Scallop Notes.  They are adorable little note cards measuring 4" x 2 3/4" and come in Soft Sky, Very Vanilla and Kraft.  They are sold pre-packaged and you get 30 of them (10 of each color) and the envelopes are included.  The price is only $11.95.  BARGAIN!

This size if fun for a quick note to a friend or to include in a gift bag.  Plus, the smaller size is easy to design for and quick to make.  I made the little note below at a recent workshop using the One of a Kind stamp set.  I water-colored the big flower using the ink pad tray and the aqua-painter.  I added a strip of color inside the card to make it pop.  To add even more dimension, I used a build-a-brad in the center.  Don't forget that this set has a matching Boho Blossoms Punch.  I used that to make a design on the back of the envy.  Too cute...more of these to come!

2008 Calendar

A couple Friday nights ago I held a Calendar Class and we created a flip style calendar with chipboard front and back covers, and a themed page for each month.  It took quite a bit longer to complete this calendar than I had estimated but it was worth it.  Look at this work of art.  I can not take credit though, this is a shameless CASE from JanTink.  She creates some fabulous projects.  I am happy to have shared this one with my customers and viewers.  Here is the front cover.  To see all the pages, click on the 1/11 Calendar Class event on the right or right HERE.

Pop-up Cards

At a recent stamping party, the hostess requested pop-up cards.  She wanted something elegant for Valentine's Day to give to her DH and anything else I could come up with.  Look what the lucky guests got to make at this party.

The first one is made with Embrace Life.  What a beautiful stamp set.  It is paired with River Rock, Ruby Red and Groovy Gauva and Very Vanilla.  This design was inspired right from the catalog.  I borrowed the small flower from Fabulous Flowers.  The River Rock card base is stamped with the Sanded background, the scallop edge done with the 3/16" corner rounder. Add a pearl from the Pretties Kit and some tafetta ribbon and voila!

The inside is what makes it a pop-up.  The heart comes from Year After Year, cut out and then mounted on a small piece of card stock behind it.  It lies flat inside the card just waiting to surprise the recipient.

The next card is made with 'A Little Bird Told Me'  and Blue Bayou Prints designer paper.  The front is pretty basic with some paper piecing thrown in on the birdie.  The shadow he is standing on is made with the small oval punch and vellum paper to make a template then sponged with Blue Bayou.  I love Blue Bayou and Soft Sky together.

What makes this a pop-up is the double slider design.  You can check out the tutorial on SCS to see how the mechanism works.  Isn't this cute!

Stamps for Sale

I have decided to clean out my many boxes of retired stamps a little at a time.  I am going to start posting some here first and then over to eBay they go.  All stamps shown on this website are priced as is (no negotiating).   They will only be available here for a short-time...maybe a week or so...and then I will pull them and put them up for auction.   They may go for more or less at auction, one never knows.   I am giving my customers and site viewers first pick here and the buyer should be local enough to come pick them up at my place.  I really do not want to deal with the shipping from this site.  Let's see how that goes.  Contact me at [email protected] if you are interested.

Rub-ons!

This new product to Stampin' UP! is all the rage.  You can find them in the new catty (on page 182) and in the Sale-a-bration catty.  They come in white and black normally, BUT in the SAB mini you can get them for FREE with a $50 purchases AND you get them in black, white, Old Olive and Chocolate Chip.  Fabulous!

I made a sample board to show you how they can be used.  This is just a few ways...guaranteed there are more.  They work great on glass and ceramic, too.   Look for more samples in the near future.  Try them, I bet you will love them as I do.

On this board you will see rub-ons used on a regular stamped image, an embossed image, textured card stock (regular works also), on a button, chipboard and patterned paper.  Look again...I used the rub-ons on the ribbon and a build-a-brad too.   Fun, fun, fun!
