Back to the Basics

At my March downline meeting today, we decided to go back to some basic techniques.  You should be using the product in your Starter Kit, or you are really missing out.  So we covered 2-step stamping with Heartfelt Thanks, poppin' pastals with those great chalks, rock-n-roll with a new Spring Mini set, and of course, one WOW project - Polished Stone.  We had a little fun and created name plates for our desks at home and the office - just in case we forget who we are!  Gosh, I love spending time with this talented and fun group of gals.  Look out SU, here comes the Paperazzi.

Cross-over

My oldest son, David (Dave if you ask him) just finished up cub scouts and has moved on to the big time - Boy Scouts!   Most boys these days think this is not cool or give up scouting for sports by now.  Luckily, and with lots of encouragement from Mom & Dad, has entered into the land of camping.  If you don't like to camp, you won't be a boy scout.  David loves it.  He is so excited to get new camping equipment he can carry on his back.  I know it sounds a little goofy, but I applaud him for sticking out 5 years of cub scouts and taking on the challenge of starting all over and working his way up the ranks again.  Let me introduce you to a future Eagle!  We are proud of you Dave.  Let's keep them out of the malls...and into the Woods!!!

Girl Scout class

Got a request from a friend to do a little class for her Girl Scout Troop.  I was a little intimidated at first because I have all boys and wasn't sure what 13-14 year old girls would like.  Yeah, I should know since I was that age once...but times have changed.  Well, I must have done something right because these 4 girls had a ball.  They were naturals and banged out 4 projects in no time.   We did a spinner card with one of my favorite sets - Monkey Business, a CD holder, a flower birthday card and a little matchbook post-it note holder.  They said they want to come back and do even more projects.  I would be thrilled!

S&SU Session 3 ends

In our last class of this 3-week session, we created a little whimsical project, a Spring Mini card and project inspired by my friend Carol B.  First, we used one of my favorite stamp sets - Unfrogettable.  This is not my usual type of stamps but I found it so irresistible, I had to have it plus the cute lily pad wheel.  Using our circle punches, we created a diorama card.  When I first saw these, they looked so hard that I was afraid to try them.  Guess what - easy as pie!  We watercolored the images and cut out the mushroom, snail and froggie and applied with dimensions.  I love the way the snail peeks out from the middle layer.  Project 2 used the amazing new designer papers and a big flower to create a great color combo with Cool Caribbean - my favorite In-Color.  That amazing wheel is to die-for used in Craft White.  Lastly, my friend Carol had such a bad cold last week that I thought we would all make Tissue Boxes...something we could all use this time of year.  With a box template and a little tray in the bottom to lift up the tissues a bit, we stamped paisleys all over the vintage violet box.  Using the Key Tag punch, we created an opening in the top to reach the tissues.  What I have discovered is that the design of the tissues in the purse-size are not interlocked and therefore, do not pull the next one out.  So we compromised and took them out of the plastic and layed them in nicely.  This cute box could hold cottonballs or be a suggestion box, too.  Hope you like the projects.

Last week's technique class

What do cracked glass, donuts and shadow boxes have in common?  You guessed it, last week's class.  We created a simple card using both of the big circle punches.  If you punch the big one (1 3/8) through the front layout and then mount a image inside it with the 1 1/4" punch, you get a little surprise inside.  The colors of this card make it versatile enough for a guy card.  I love the HB stamp.  Confession time...didn't recognize what these initials were at first.  How often do you say 'Have a HB?".  The shadow box card is so easy.  Just two pieces of cards stock (51/2 x 41/4) scored in from the sides at 1/2 and 1 inch. Stamp inside and cut some images out for the outside of the card.  Add a little sticky strip to hold the sides together and you get a great 3-d effect.  Lastly, create a cracked glass look to your card by adding 3 layers of glassy glaze.  Then throw it in the freezer and what until it hardens.  Take it out and bend it gently and listen to the crackle.  Try it, you will love the sound.  No two cards crack the same so each one is unique.

National Pig Day

Did you know there was such a thing? Well, there is and it was March 1st.   On that day, a friend and downline of mine, Lorraine, gave me the most adorable pink pig pin with wings.  I think SU designed Punny just for occasions like this.  Along with the pin came this inspirational message, it said

"A pig that has wings, does impossible things.  Over clouds it can fly, in the wink of an eye.  She may tickle you pink, but she wants you to think - of her message to each - 'Nothing's out of your reach!'"

A message to us all from this little pink pig...
